Actually, if your computer has Acrobat writer on it, you don't actually "save" the file, you choose print, and then choose Adobe from the printer options. A completely unintuitive change they made in the last few versions.

There are free programs you can download, but I don't have any handy links. Also, the Adobe page will let you create 5 free adobe pdfs online.
