lj-cut? LJ-CUT? NO LJ-CUT FOR YOU

Meet Kestrel. She marks my first attempt at something approaching cel-style shading. She also gets to hang around in front of a crap background that took way too long to do. The trees started life as part of a photo taken by [livejournal.com profile] chrisxk, and I manipulated said photo without permission, for I am evil. Plus I know he'd give me permission if I asked anyway.

I really, really like Gargoyles. Can you tell?

Also, from m-w.com:
Main Entry: kes-trel
Pronunciation: 'kes-tr&l
: any of various small chiefly Old World falcons (genus Falco) that usually hover in the air while searching for prey: as a : a common Eurasian falcon (F. tinnunculus) b : an American falcon (F. sparverius) having a reddish brown back and tail and bluish gray wings

So now you know.

It's just that good

Say, now... most impressive pic. Get down with your mad celshading look, yo. I likes.

Very nice. I like. ^_^

Brilliant niftiness, och. I could never draw legs that well.

And noses.

And... buh. I'll go draw something else.

[identity profile] napoleonherself.livejournal.com 2002-10-19 09:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Her nose is a glorified L-shape. There's nothing special about it. ;P

Also, DRAW

[identity profile] stuffy.livejournal.com 2002-10-19 10:35 pm (UTC)(link)
What can I say? The noses of my gargoyle/demon's noses are not-as-glorified ] s.

ARR DIE UM PALEFACE. HOW.

WIGWAM

[identity profile] ohamsie.livejournal.com 2002-10-20 12:12 am (UTC)(link)
Wow, that is really good. How did you do it?

[identity profile] napoleonherself.livejournal.com 2002-10-20 10:26 am (UTC)(link)
Well, first I invoked the dark lord Satan and offered this young girl's soul to -- no, wait, that's how to make a quarter disappear.

I, um, drew it. And then scanned it. And then used my shiny Wacom to draw vector lines over every pencil line. And then filled and colored and stuff accordingly. Vectors are my friend. They can be poked into looking right, instead of just being erased and re-drawn.

[identity profile] feathered.livejournal.com 2002-10-20 06:16 pm (UTC)(link)
What are vector lines?

I still suck with my tablet and it is sad.

I like the picture. I like the cel style. How do you do that? It confuses me. But I like Kestrel, even though I don't know about gargoyles..

[identity profile] napoleonherself.livejournal.com 2002-10-20 11:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Uh. Vectors are sort of hard to describe. They're, like... lines where you can edit the points. So if you draw a line crooked, you can just adjust the points and make it straight. And whatnot. They're a boon to people like me, who simply cannot draw straight lines at all.

And I just sort of... did it. With the lines, and the filling, and yeah. Poit.

wow, that is so cool! i love the name too, what a good idea.

Yeah, hands that aren't blobs, and everything!

[identity profile] darnn.livejournal.com 2002-10-22 10:48 am (UTC)(link)
Indeed that is nice, for a drawing that took three years.
Seriously, though, it's great. Muchly so.
I must steal Mark's tablet, if it can do shininess of this sort.

[identity profile] napoleonherself.livejournal.com 2002-10-22 04:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, keep in mind, a lot of the shininess is not from the tablet, but from PSP's vector tool -- editing vectors is, in fact, much easier with a mouse than with the tablet. I love vectors, have I mentioned this yet? *hugs vectors*

[identity profile] napoleonherself.livejournal.com 2002-10-22 08:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh? And why is that, pray tell?

EAT VECTORS
And reading what you write yourself might help.

[identity profile] napoleonherself.livejournal.com 2002-10-23 07:20 am (UTC)(link)
I write a number of things. Perhaps it would help if you would tell me to which you are referring.

The one you wrote just before the one I wrote after which you asked me why I envied vectors.

[identity profile] napoleonherself.livejournal.com 2002-10-24 08:11 am (UTC)(link)
...dude, I'm tired. Why don't you be a bit more helpful and, oh, REPEAT THE THING so I can tell what's going on? :P
