The boy destroyed my copy of The Ultimate Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy (that big blue edition that has all the books in it, for those of you who're familiar with it). DESTROYED. You see, my book was in his backpack. A jar of salsa (for his foods class) was also in his backpack. One broke and doused the other. You do the math.

I am, however, not upset. Y'know why? Well, for one thing, this is exactly the same kinda thing I'd do. He wasn't being irresponsible towards others' stuff so much as he was forgetting that glass has a tendancy to break. I do that. Plus... I had the cheapie blue edition that sure, had all the books, but didn't have that, y'know, something else. However, I *told* him in *no uncertain terms* that if he ruined my copy, he'd have to buy me... the bible edition. Yes. THHGTTG in Bible-style binding, gold-edged pages, complete with ribbon bookmark. Oh yes. Oh yes. Whoever designed that edition had to've been a fan. It IS the Ultimate Guide. Le drool.

He's not too happy about having to spend his hard earned (where by "earned" I mean "found on the ground a quarter, a nickel, a buck at a time") money on me, but, well... I warned him!
