I'm melting, meeeeeelting
Sep. 15th, 2002 10:47 amMy computer is crashing rather amusingly.
Last night about 10 or 11, I made the mistake of running WinAmp when something else had the soundcard. WinAmp crashed. It crashed mightily, in fact -- I'd click 'OK' on the illegal op box, and a new one would pop up. Repeatedly. I had to shove it to the side of the screen so I could get on with what I was doing.
So at this point I had no sound (as soundcard had gone the way of WinAmp) and no browsing (as the mess had taken IE with it). A couple hours later IE had kindasorta come back, but not WinAmp. I left computer going when I went to bed, WinMX still downloading, WinAmp error still shoved to the side, dead IE window still in the background.
It was still alive in the morning. Four new eps of Gargoyles downloaded, two more in the process of downloading, error box and dead window still there.
Then in the act of deleting stuff to free up drivespace, I froze Explorer.
And in the act of accidentally moving the taskbar to the side of the screen, I froze THAT.
I still have a connection. I still have Internet Explorer and two functioning Explorer (of the non-Internet variety) windows. WinMX is still downloading. My connection to SocialMUX is still alive and kicking.
I just can't open anything else. At all. Until I three-finger-salute the computer to death to get things working again.
Wacky.
