Oof.

Y'know that worm that's going around? Hides on a network, tells computers that it's time to reboot? IU's network got it. It started rebooting mecha's computer on him. Mine remained safe due to my trusty firewall, which I'm now glad I was paranoid enough to keep turned on -- it had a handy log of all the attempted connects to port 135, plus it kept us with one good computer during the time that we thought we'd lost the other one.

See, IU's tech support thingy whatever isn't fixing the fact that this worm is all over the network. It's just telling people who call in to install a Microsoft patch. But the patch has to download and install via ye olde network. The same network with the shutdown worm on it. So while you're online to get the patch to block the worm... the worm reboots you and stops the patching. And when you stop that MS update download, the one that you're not supposed to stop while it's in the middle of doing its thing... well, in this case, it was bad, bad juju. My little machine was still fine, mecha's beautiful minideity had ceased to boot properly.

After some difficulty we managed to start the restore process. Still. Lost data, lost time, plenty of reasons to murder some various people. Yesh.

I should sleep.
