TALKING TRICK BOX
Mar. 13th, 2004 01:46 amWe just caught half of the absolute weirdest movie on public access. It's apparently called Tales of the Unusual, and was made in 2000 in Japan. It's also only apparently available on region 2 or 3 DVD (or on $100+ VHS), which makes me sad.
Apparently it's made up of four little vignettes, but we only caught two of them. The first one, Samurai Cellular, involves... wait for it... a samurai in feudal Japan who finds a... cellphone. Which talks to him. And knows his name. And claims to be a historian from 300 years in the future, wanting to confirm historical details about his life.
The samurai at one point asks the historian to change the ringtone. I'm not making this up.
The piece after that involved chess, and was a touching little story if you're not a chess geek and can overlook the very illegal move that forms a plot point for some reason.
It was seriously awesome. Go check it out from your local library if they for some reason have a copy or something; apparently it's POSSIBLE to get it somewhere around here since it was on LOCAL-ACCESS television...
