Tom, I bet you know what's up with this. You should explain. Or anyone else who knows, really.
So I plugged in my ancient webcam today, after probably two years of it just gathering dust, and found that somehow I no longer had the drivers for it. Now, I've USED it on this computer -- I wouldn't have installed the webcam server utility if I hadn't -- so I was perhaps understandably confused. But I found the zipfile with the drivers in it, and reinstalled them, and now the camera works.
The only thing is, when it's on, there's a horrible feedback whine or never-ending beep coming through my headphones.
So. Who can tell me why my camera being on would make noise? I am willing to accept "gremlins did it" as an explanation, but only if you bring me the head of the lead gremlin on a pike.
