Computer problems of the annoying sort.
Nov. 15th, 2006 09:35 amDoes anyone know what can cause the following problems?
- Trillian losing all saved away messages (I'm guessing this happened like a WEEK ago because people kept IMing me asking why I wasn't answering if I wasn't set as away)
- Thunderbird, when started up, going to a screen asking which user profile thing I want to use, when I have never seen that screen before ever, and then when I try to log in on the default profile which is the ONLY one, telling me that I can't log in because I'm already logged in (which was fixed with a reboot but still disturbing)
- On rebooting, saw the Enter Windows Password Thingie Here window briefly before the autologin kicked in, which has also never happened ever
The only "changes" I can be said to have made are physically switching routers a hundred times in the last week (I guess being knocked offline a lot can lose you your Trillian away messages? Huh?), and having the computer turned off for an hour or so the other day.
Any ideas?
So yeah. Sean, if you read this, that's why I kept not having an away message, I guess. I told you I wasn't ignoring you!
Also, Matt-sub-pokémon, we are possibly moving a U-Haul full of furniture and stuff on the weekend, dependent on weather and when we can get any outside help. If you would be available to help move said furniture, we would probably be willing to pay you fifty bucks for your help (I am not in charge of finances but that is what mecha's friend was offered for his potential help). Some of it is kind of heavy but with three or four people carrying it if necessary it works out to not that much per person. Also we will have a furniture dolly to help us.
Finally, Tom-sub-nottheoneIonlytalktothroughemail, I don't know if you saw in the MUX, but the guy at Best Buy tried to convince us that a surge protector would do nothing for my mom's laptop, and that we would have to buy a $50 UPS instead. Something about how computers are never damaged by spikes in electricity, only by the dips. Feel free to, as the kids say, lawlz.
(PS the thing I talked about in the locked post apparently it is over now and we the people involved are to never speak of it again I guess? fine whatever as long as I don't get called any more horrible names by people I thought I could trust to not make me feel like subhuman garbage!)
