Fun fact #1: We own two copies of Nero (a DVD-playing program). Two copies! We own them legally. Mecha picked them up like two years ago from Best Buy because he figured we'd install one copy on his computer and one on mine. I never got around to installing my copy, though, and it wound up in a box somewhere, still in its shrinkwrap.
Fun fact #2: Mecha recently reinstalled Windows on his computer and his copy of Nero decided that it wasn't going to work anymore. The key was already in use, you see! By him. On that very same computer. With no hardware changes at all. But nope, sorry mecha, you don't get to use the copy of Nero that you legally bought and installed on the only computer you own.
Fun fact #3: He emailed Nero on JANUARY 17TH to ask them if he could please be allowed to use the software that he paid for. They sent an auto-response saying that they would get back to him "soon", and nothing else.
Fun fact #4: Today he gave up on waiting to be allowed to use his own copy of Nero, so he used the so-called "CleanTool" that Nero offers (with warnings that IT WILL TOTALLY ERASE NERO FROM YOUR COMPUTER SO MAKE SURE YOU WRITE DOWN YOUR KEY FIRST ZOMG SRSLY.) Then he took the still-shrinkwrapped other copy, opened it, and installed it.
And it refuses to work with that brand-new key.
Responses from Nero? Still nothing.
Thoughts? I especially welcome anything that results in our possessing two working copies of Nero, which is, if you'll recall, WHAT WE PAID THEM FOR.
(p.s.: hello again, LJ! it figures that I would bother to finally post only to complain about corporations jerking us around again. all I need is for Frank from Comcast to now be working for Nero and the fun will be complete!)
