Dear Microsoft: thanks a lot for your little timebomb that randomly starts happening on Vista computers, steps up slowly in frequency, and one day, stops letting the computer boot in anything but safe mode, forcing the user to do a complete reformat. It's awesome, really. My favorite part is how the error states that I made an unauthorized change, as though somehow I don't own my own computer. (Also? As if I actually made any changes larger than using the remote desktop software THAT COMES WITH WINDOWS, which is what I was doing when this first happened. But, you know, using Microsoft's software as intended can totally invalidate Microsoft's software licenses.)

Alternately, I suppose that mecha's computer and mine "just happened" to start having, I dunno, hardware failures or something, mine first and then his a couple weeks later. That seems much more likely.

Now I will continue spending hours backing my stuff up so I can then spend hours reformatting/restoring.

Keep up the good work, Microsoft.

:( :( :(

(PS: did you mean to let safe-mode-with-networking and my USB ports continue to work? It seems like you would've rather cut off those means of escape for all my data, for the full "we hate everything good and punch orphaned puppies for fun" effect. Just a thought for next time!)

Fortunately, my Sims 2 stuff is all backed up to Dropbox, and the screenshots for my legacy are now on TWO external drives. You can't escape it, eljays! :D
