mmm, weekend

Argh. I should've brought my camera.
Today was a day where we had potluck, and Steve introduced us new student assistants to the grups who work the floor, and there was an inflatable palm tree and dolphin and stuff. And there was all these things I wished I could've gotten on film. Like Steve dancing with the inflatable dolphin ("You two make a lovely couple," I told him, and "Excuse us, we're going to a hotel now" he said after he was done), and Chad wearing the two pink leis in an amusing fashion, and all of us squirming in the hot seat one at a time in front of everyone while Steve made fun of us. The potluck party thing lasted about two hours. We had virgin margaritas and chips with yummy dip. And other foodstuffs. And Tootsie Roll Pops, of which Chad stole about a dozen. I stole three. It was fun.
After we got back it was noted that someone had brought one of the crepe-paper fishies back from the conference room where we'd been, and had stuck it in the ceiling. I noted that we needed to name the fishie. Jessica named it Bubba. Then we proceeded to name most of the computers. And the weird indexing thingy that Chad and I think looks like a 31-legged horse. The fakenhorse is... um... Pietes? Something like that. The Spanish word for "legs", I have it written down, I just don't feel like digging it up. The computers are Sean Connery, Billie Sue Ann, Harrison Ford, Rimmer unless someone feels like renaming that one, and Lister. There's one still unnamed, Chad gets that one as soon as he thinks of something. I, of course, named possiblyRimmer and Lister. Lister is my favorite of the computers in that room. I'm glad that I got to name it. Er, him.
We also got trained to audit today. It's fairly sensical. Long and involved, but not too hard. We're doing it in pairs for a while, sort of tag-team "Does that look right to you?" "Yep." "Okay, glad we're in agreement" ness. Because Chad, Steve and I are always there on time if not early, we each got paired up with one of the other people, who either don't work every day or just don't come in till noon. I wanted to get paired with Chad, because he's the closest I have to an actual friend at work (I mean, he agreed right off that naming the scanners and whatnot was a good idea, how cool is that?). But ah well.
I wound up working ten minutes too late on the auditing, and was informed that I can just take off ten minutes early on Monday but mark on the timesheet that I got off at the usual time. Rock.
Also rock was that either one bus was ten minutes late or the other was ten minutes early; at any rate, even though I got out of work late, I still got to maul in time to catch 5:09 bus, instead of getting there at, like, 5:15 and having to wait for 5:39 bus. On second bus, a mother was getting off with her child, and she was holding hands with him, and she got off, and then the door closed on her arm, leaving the kid inside. That was odd.
Also odd was that when I got home and walked past the clubhouse out front and went to go in the back gate, I found it repaired. Nice. It hasn't actually shut for several eons now -- you can pull it shut, but the little bar thingy broke off. Not nice was that it was shut and locked. I basically came home and found my way into the house locked. Yeah. So I had to go all the way around about a half dozen trailers to get to the front door. I could've cut through the neighbors' yard, but that's rude. Plus they hate it and I don't like getting yelled at.
Note to self: get key to that gate. Also glare loudly at mom for apparently going off and locking it while you were at work, without warning you.
Fnord.
