I just got home from the colloquium, and no one's online but Carlo. Wah. I'm lonely.

This session was interesting. The guy givng the presentation today started off by telling us to stand up. Then he told us to put our hands in the air.

Then he stood there. And so did we. With our hands in the air.

After a while he had us sit down again. Then he told us to get up again. And put our hands in the air again. And most of us did.

"Okay, sit down..."

*class sits down*

"Now... how many of you will stand up for me this time?"

His whole point was to lead into a talk on different forms of control, by showing us that he had authority over us and could make us stand up and put our hands in the air and then STAND there like that simply because we believed that he could. As long as he stayed within the bounds of what we have been trained to think is acceptable requests, we'd pretty much go along with it. Excellent way to lead into the discussion. Also kinda scary, when you think about it. Reminds me of that one sociology experiment where the people were told that the lever was connected to a machine that administered shocks to the guy in the next room, but they just kept increasing the voltage and increasing the voltage and increasing the voltage, even after the "victim" in the next room had gone ominously silent...

Should probably finish the comic I promised to have up tomorrow. And it might help to know the material that I hafta give a group presentation on, also tomorrow.

Workin' on it, man.

I currently have Friday's totally pencilled and about a third inked, and Monday's almost all pencilled. I'm rediscovering what a good idea it is to take my sketchbook to school with me!
