napoleonherselfSo a while ago I attempted to pirate a piece of software called MilkShape, because I liked it, wanted to use it to make Sims skins, but didn't have the 20 bucks necessary to register.
Because I attempted to register it (with someone else's key, but the program didn't know that) after the 30 day trial period had expired, it only halfaregistered. Basically it still thinks it's unregistered in that I can't save, but it IS registered in the sense that I can't properly register it. See? Halfaregistered. Ruined, in other words. I can't save with it, I can't register it, and it will be in my program registry FOREVER AND EVER AND EVER like that. On a side note, isn't that a LOVELY bug? Even if you legitimately register 31 days in, NO MILKSHAPE FOR YOU!!!
So I finally get around to paying the $20 so I can have it on the laptop. I go ahead and download it, and I also grab the little freeware app that converts MilkShape-readable .objs to Sims-game .skns, and vice-versa. It's an important little piece of programming, ye ken, as MS can't read .skn files.
The little freeware program... doesn't... work... on the laptop.
So I have a $20 piece of software on the laptop, and the other thing I need is on this computer. In order to work on a skin, I must:
* Floppy .skn over to desktop
* Run .skn through skn2obj
* Floppy resulting .obj back to laptop
* Manipulate .obj till I think it might be done, or until I want to check it in SimShow
* Floppy .obj back to desktop
* Run .obj through skn2obj
* Floppy resulting .skn back to laptop
* Drop .skn into SimShow directory
* View skin
* Either decide it's good, and dump it into Sims game, or start process aaaaaall over again
And if I have to check it in-game, then there's also switching of floppy and CD drives involved.
Can we say, karma? This is what I get for not having the money before. I always planned to pay as soon as I had the money, even if my copy was technically already pirateregistered, just because it's such a cool program. But try telling that to the god or gods that exist and hate my guts.
