Arr. I swear I'm not dead. I keep meaning to post things and then forgetting.

HEre's one of the things. They are playing Christmas music at my work now. Constant. Over the impossible-to-escape sound system. All day.

Well, impossible to escape, except that only one side of the building actually has the sound system. The other side doesn't. Guess which side I work on? Bwahahaha. I don't have to hear the evil except when I'm waiting for an elevator or in the bathroom. I feel sorry for all the full-time employees who're stuck listening to the terror for nine hours a day on the other side, though.

There. AM NOT DEAD POKEY

Midnight Mix

For all I hate about working the midnight shift at a grocery store, there ARE advantages... notably, the 'normal' in-store music (Around this time of year, all Christmas all the time) is replaced by a different mix (Top 40's spanning from the 70's to now... R.E.M., The B-52s, etc) from midnight to 5am. Ah, bliss.

Sure, they've got a bunch of crap songs in the midnight mix, but it's better than elevator music.

What I want to know is why someone apparently STILL thinks everyone wants to hear Christmas music. Have you ever heard anyone say that they enjoy hearing it constantly for a month? I haven't!

Well, my mistake. This year they just reduced the Top40:Christmas ratio...

Might be that they're expecting the customers to not notice it as much. I'd imagine they don't care much about the employees who have to sit through 8 hours of it. Do they blare it out the speakers at max volume over there?

Wow, you mean there's another possible volume level they could play it at?

Well, that'd be volume level 2 of 3... level 1 is "loud", level 3 is "ear-piercing to the point where you cannot converse with your coworkers".

We had to put up with the latter level shortly after September 11, 2001. 24-hour "patriotic" music. Basically meant the same 1.5 hour playlist of marching songs and James Brown's "Living in America" over and over and over. Egad.

Though, oddly, Living in America was still the most tolerable song when the whole ordeal was over...

Wow, if that doesn't send a person over to the other side I don't know what will...

Of course you're not dead. You'd have to exist first :)

If by "outsmarted" you mean "told that I was in fact named Helga and thus not the target", then yes.

A mixture of several household poisons. Arsenic was one of them :-)

But was it mostly arsenic?
