I sincerely hope that it's true that it can only get better from here.

However, this was a short day compared to Thursday, when I get to be on campus from 10 till 6, so I have my doubts.

First class today was CS223J, Java Programming. Notice it starts with a 2. Believe me when I say that this is a computer-science-major class, that has multiple compsci requirements, and that you sort of need to understand basic computery things in order to survive at all.

One of the things the instructor taught us was how to open notepad. How to open.... notepad. Seriously. Of course, he himself got it wrong at first, but once he got it he sure as heck wanted to pass it on to the rest of us. He also taught us how to follow links on webpages -- we went from his course website, to a page with Java tutorialness, to a subpage of said tutorial. He walked us very carefully through this process. Twice.

May I just say, "...................."

Then I worked for a couple hours. That was fine. I got to banter with Chris-sub-work and Thourak, the new guy. I also got to meet Sara(h?), the new girl. She seemed nice. They have her working the front desk at least temporarily because she has front desk experience. Fine by me. I hated being put on the front desk anyway.

Then I went to my little Music 100 class. First I discovered that I had oopsed on buying the book (more on this later). Then I discovered that we're going to have four group presentation things throughout the semester. FOUR. Jesus CHRIST, lady, why don't you just kill me NOW?! I also have to turn in an assignment the day after we get back from spring break, which means I get to turn it in BEFORE spring break as I'll sort of be in Indiana and/or St. Louis when the thing is actually due.

Then class was over. Time to figure out... the book situation.

So I needed this book for music class. And I got it. Only, I also have to have this set of 4 CDs along WITH the book. So I went back to the bookstore to buy the CDs. And found that they were charging 47 for the CDs on top of charging 36 for the book, when you could buy them used together for 60. Ummmm... no. So I picked up the book and CD together, went downstairs to pick up a couple small things like pens, then pondered at the huge line at the regular checkout counter.

So I went to the special-accounts checkout counter instead. At one point that had been the only counter I was allowed to access my stipend from, so I figured it might still be an okay place. I made sure to ask, though -- "does President's Scholar still count as a special account?" -- and while the guy I asked didn't know, the guy who came back from somewhere five minutes later did -- no. So I got to go get in the huge line after all, which was, of course, huger by this point.

Finally I got to the counter. I asked if I could do a return before buying my stuff. The girl said yes. I attempted to return book-without-CDs. I had been told when buying said book that some sort of juju was in place that would make me not need my receipt if I wanted to return it; I learned today that this is a lie, because without my receipt I couldn't actually return book there. So after a futile attempt to fit book-with-CDs on what was left of my card, I went to the place where I had to return book-without-CDs. To do this I had to leave the bookstore, walk around it, and go up a ramp at the rear of the bookstore. I then got to wait about 20 minutes while they had issues with my card. Eventually the return was straightened out. I was assured that the money was instantly credited to my account. It was 38ish, which, with the "50 or 60" I was quite sure I already had, would definitely be enough to buy Mr. $62 Book With CDs. So I went back down the ramp, back around the bookstore, back inside, got back in line which was now about twice as long as it had been before.

Got up to counter for second attempt at buying stuffs. Still didn't work. Still not enough on card. Insert giant "HUH?" here. Insert Jenny starting to get worried. What happened to my money?

Left bookstore. Walked back across campus (for fourth time that day) to wait for mom. Waited for mom for nearly an hour. Finally she arrived, I returned to bookstore with her and her credit card in tow.

First I discovered that the things I had wanted to buy were no longer set aside -- even though I had TOLD the lady I was coming back again, and even though it had been literally less than an hour, things had been put back.

Insert Jenny remembering that she had picked up the last used copy of book-with-CDs.

Insert Jenny realizing that if mom has to put $90 new book-with-CDs on her credit card, there will be much killing.

Went upstairs, found one lonely copy of book-with-CDs, used, thrown carelessly between piles of new ones. Hooray! They might've put it back, but at least it's still here.

Back downstairs, FINALLY able to buy book on mom's credit card, ordeal over. It only took about two hours total and five total linewaits.

It turns out that the reason I still couldn't fit book-with-CDs on Titan Card even after returning book-without-CDs is that the nice lady at the return counter lied to me. The money does not go instantaneously back on my card. It takes, in fact, about 24 hours.

BAH.

I have to admit that I'm not terribly happy with the bookstore people. They're courteous enough, and all, but they keep lying to me. Like the time I tried to reserve a book a couple hours before the bookstore closed for the night, was reassured that it WOULD be held "for 24 hours," came back the next morning, and was informed that no, they don't actually hold books past closing, ever. Thus, couple hours = 24 hours. Um, no. Then there's this instance where I am assured specifically that a return is credited INSTANTLY to my card, when in fact this is very much not true. Why don't they just tell the truth? If I can't reserve a book overnight, fine. If I can't instantly access the money refunded to me, fine. Just effing TELL ME SO. I am one hundred percent ready to go along with bookstore policy, just for the love of all that is good and tasty, TELL ME WHAT THE POLICY IS!

And then mom and I went to grocery store, bought a few things, and came home.

The end.
