Recently I worked up a Super Happy Fun Explorer Mode links page for Snail Dust; basically I wanted to be able to click on a comic link and have the comic open in the same page so I could read it and then go on. So a simple little frameset, boom, there I have it.

Of course, I then was looking at essentially having to maintain two different links pages -- they would need to have the same links on them, but be formatted two different ways (newlines and space-related delimiters) (edit: those are old backup versions so yes I know they say like 'error cannot open stuff' but that's just because I stuffed them in an archive directory). This sounded to me like bad juju. I'd wind up only adding a link to one or the other of the two pages, they'd get all out of whack... that kind of thing.

So I went looking and taught myself exactly enough php to be able to have just one text file full of links, that the two web pages would each read and format in their own way and plop onto themselves automatically. And it works.

I are teh grate.

And now for some leftover hamburger soup.

As for the linkies... the link to Blue Neon should be updated to blueneon.xidus.net. I stopped bothering to try to update the Keenspace page back in like, 2002. But yes, I do like this explorery thingamagic.

Ack, it's still the Keenspace link? I haven't actually NOT manually typed it in since, like, ever, which is why I didn't notice that, but still.

I see on your links page that you are open to recommendations of obscure webcomics, so I thought I'd share.

Ribald Youth is a really nice one that I just recently got into. The author's level of otakuness can get kind of annoying sometimes (I.E. the comic being read right-to-left even though it's in English originally,) but the art has a really beautiful style to it (I think,) and the stories are good, and it can be pretty funny. The dialogue is priceless.

Pixel is a pretty random comic I discovered awhile back that I think is hilarious. Really quirky humor. Really geeky humor, too.

I'm not sure whether you're familiar with Tailsteak, but he has some pretty good comics going on over at his site. You'd probably want to start with One Over Zero, his magnus opus. He's how I found out about Snail Dust, anyway.

Mel Everyman and His Sarcastic Talking Housepet Ambrose. Really weird and random, sometimes potentially offensive, but pretty hilarious.

1/0 owned my soul while it existed. tailsteak.tk is too random for me to be able to keep up with what he's doing, though, or at least it was back when I was giving it a try.

Although the thing that's up there right now is funny. Curse you, Tailsteak.

I am going to have to go click those other links now!

Yeah, I really wish he'd pick one plotline and just STICK WITH IT, for crying out loud. I even donated a little bit awhile back requesting that he focus on "Band" for awhile, and he did, but after that, it's just been a couple strips here and there. If you missed it, though, you should really check out The Sixth TV - it's a completed short story, and a good taste of the awesomeness he could accomplish if he applied the consistancy of 1/0 to any of his current projects.

And pretend those last three links go to Rattie New Years, Rattie Valentines, and Rattie Easter. Me = SMRT.
