I will be glad when today is over because then I will no longer have to hear that one girl from housewares reading the "wear it loud, wear it proud!" patriotic t-shirt ad thing over the PA system at work.
Also won't have to hear John (co-worker, not
wing_zero_ew) read the one about the American flag that is free after mail-in rebate.
All Menards (it actually doesn't have an apostrophe, which DRIVES ME CRAZY, but I guess Mr. Menard is just stupid that way) rebates are in the form of store credit. So you THINK you're saving money, but in the end you're just buying more stuff from them. I love it.
My manager worked from 6:15 AM to close last night. Store closed at 9 PM, and I wasn't there so I don't know how much longer they had to stay, but I'm guessing at least 45 minutes. Do the math, that's a looooong shift. And y'know what? Menards DOES NOT pay overtime for shifts longer than 8 hours. You only get overtime if you work more than 40 hours PER WEEK. And only if you're full-time. Part-timers could work every second the store was open, all week long, and never get overtime pay.
Also, if you work a nine-hour shift (as I was supposed to yesterday, except again, went home early) you get one 10-minute break and one 30-minute lunch. If you're working a TEN-hour shift you get one break and one lunch. That's it. No more. It's a physically demanding job, too, and they still expect you to work four hours at a stretch before getting barely enough time to limp to the bathroom and back.
These are some, though by no means all, of the reasons why I turned in my two-week-notice yesterday. There's also the fact that this job is stressing me out to the point where I'm going into massive crying fits, for instance. Not Fun. And I keep getting headaches that make it really hard to smile at the "guests" while wandering around on that concrete floor. And darnit, school's starting up soonish, I'd like some time to myself when I'm NOT insanely stressed and limping everywhere.
Also, this post is long.
