So basically all I do with my free time these days is play Sims 2! Because I loves it. And I have begun to play a legacy, because that's something I've wanted to do ever since I read about it years ago, but it's impossible in Sims 1 because genetics basically don't exist.

Nobody who is likely to read this will particularly care about my hastily-scribbled descriptions of the events in a half-decade-old game. I DON'T CARE. I'munna keep going until I get bored.

So here is my founder:

Her name is Titania, I made her in CAS, and she is going to have, like, a billion descendants.

MORE TO FOLLOW YO.

I've been playing loads of Sims2 as well. How do you reconcile multiple descendants, generation wise?

And hello, I'm a random fan.

I'm not sure what you mean... like, what to do with the spares who don't get heired? I haven't 100% decided on that yet; some of them will probably get to have their own little side lives, and others will just go in the sim bin forever.

well I personally get kinda attached to some sims, give them lots of kids and such, but eventually some of the generations have to get old and even die, no? Otherwise you have some grandparents and grown grandkids, all the same age.

Oh, yeah, yeah. I have aging turned on, so the heirs and their spouses will get old and die. Kids who don't get heired will, of course, age if I put them in their own houses and play with them, but logically speaking most of them will be immortal.

A lot of my inspiration is coming from [livejournal.com profile] rikkulidea's legacies, and she does the same thing. So she'll be in, say, gen eight, and one of the spares from gen two will walk by on the sidewalk, flaunting their immortality.

... show up pregnant, big as a house, for years and years.

Once I had Keanu Reeves (in the Action Star household) show up, always with stomach flu, he'd go to parties or go out on dates (everybody likes Keanu) and throw up continually.

The only thing people like more than Keanu Reeves? Keanu Reeves constantly puking in their toilet.

what that game needs is one icon that you can click on, and bring up the last family you played with. Instead of starting the game, skipping the movie, clicking on your town, clicking on your family, wait wait wait.

Oh, man, yes, that would be amazing. I hate having to load the neighborhood list and then the neighborhood every dang time. Sometimes I'm not sure who I want to play first, so it makes sense; but lately I've only been playing my legacy family, so that's a bunch of useless extra clicks. If there's one thing they harp on at my work, it's the evils of useless clicks. (And grammar tips. If there's two things they harp on, they're useless clicks and grammar tips. And making software pretty. If there's three things... I'll come in again. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z4svo6sVGxg))

One thing that is doable is making the opening movies never appear, though -- http://www.modthesims.info/article.php?t=92314

where do you work, where they concentrate on UI? It's one of my many many interests.

http://epic.com -- we make electronic medical record software. The Epic that makes games is another Epic.

Our CEO likes to go on at the monthly all-staff meetings about how important it is to make our software "cute" and "sexy". The needless-click thing is one of the specific topics that gets mentioned fairly regularly.

I'm not saying we actually *do* awesome UI things, mind, but we do at least have a million UI-related guidelines to follow even if people don't actually follow them all the time.

I'm thinking of fixing this by making a rule, if a Sim isn't compelling, either age them, or put them in a big house of like 20 sims, such sims often have high mortality. Play the house, move out anyone likeable. Of course I have jealousy turned off.

That's more or less what I'm doing; I've got a big house ready to dump spares into, and anyone I particularly care about gets their own place to live. I haven't really been letting the people at Casa de Spare get themselves killed, though -- not even the one who's a vampire and thus extra-stupid.

I dunno why you'd want jealousy completely off, though. I let ACR handle jealousy, so I get the gamut from "we dated once so now if you date anyone else it's cheating" to "I approve of you making out with my wife!" It's a nice mix of hilarious drama and equally-hilarious lack of drama.
